How to Get Rid of Sore Throat Quickly

A sore throat is a sensation of itchiness and pain in the throat. There may be a mild pain in general, but as you swallow, the pain may become worse. It is not so dangerous to rush to the doctor, but it may be a painful experience and you may also have to sacrifice your good nightís sleep. Sounds bad, doesnít it? Hence we have some home remedies to get rid of these painful throats.

  • Honey

Honey mixed in tea or taken on its own proves a good home remedy for sore throat. It is also very effective in ceasing night-time coughs. And since the honey is known as a wound-healer, it speeds the sore throat healing process.

  • Saltwater

Slightly warm salt water can be used as a gargling liquid. Gargling with salt water help soothe a sore throat and breaks down secretions. It also helps in killing the bacteria in the throat. It is also known to reduce swelling in the throat and keep the throat clean.

  • Chamomile tea

Chamomile tea is a naturally soothing agent. It is often used for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and astringent properties. Drinking it as a tea can help relieve symptoms of cold, and sore throat. It also stimulates the immune symptoms to fight the infection that causes sore throat.

  • Warm compress

Make a warm compress. And wrap it around your throat. This will give quick relief from the pain outside of your throat. This compress can be made out of a heating pad, or a hot water bottle, or a warm cloth.

  • Peppermint

It is known to freshen the breath. Dilute the peppermint oil and use it as throat spray. This helps in relieving sore throats. Peppermint contains menthol which helps in thinning the mucus. It also has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial properties which may enhance the healing process.

  • Fenugreek

Fenugreek is used to relieve pain and kill bacteria that cause irritation and inflammation. It can be administered in many ways like eating the seeds, use its oil, even drink fenugreek tea. But researches suggest that pregnant women should avoid fenugreek.

  • Licorice root

Licorice roots have long been used to cure sore throats. It can be mixed with water as gargling solution. But again, researches show that pregnant and breastfeeding women should avoid it.

  • Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has many natural antibacterial uses. Because of its acidic nature, it can be used to break down mucus in the throat and stop bacteria from spreading. But use of vinegar should be consulted by doctor as to know your bodyís sensitivity to vinegar.

These are some of the methods that can be used to cure the sore throat quickly. Adding on, drink lots of fluids and take good rest. If these home remedies donít work, then it is advisable to consult a doctor. Especially, if you find your throat or tonsils swelling, it is highly recommended to consult a doctor.
